U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Cindy Marten Delivers Keynote Speech at AFSA Convention

"My time and energy did not come from my title, it came from looking at my community," U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Cindy Marten told attendees at the American Federation of School Administrators 16th Triennial Constitutional Convention.

"Our power never comes from our positions. It is our moral authority that guides us."

Marten gave the keynote address on the second day of the gathering. A former teacher, literacy specialist, vice principal, principal and superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District, she told the audience, " I feel like I'm with my friends and colleagues being here with you. San Diego is my home and always will be."
